Can I Lose Weight on a Plant-Based Lifestyle?

Can I lose weight on a plant-based lifestyle? Losing weight is a long journey that takes time, effort, and commitment. Results are never instantaneous and everyone’s journey to the destination is different. One approach you may be familiar with is dieting. Lots of people decide that the right way to go through weight loss is by dieting.

In truth, this strategy does work for many people, but on its own, it’s not enough. Weight loss involves a change of your entire lifestyle, which brings us to our topic of the day: a plant-based lifestyle.

While you may have heard of it, not many people know what this actually means, and the benefits it has to offer. Today, we’re diving head-first into the discussion of whether or not a plant-based lifestyle is the right starting point for your weight loss journey.

What is a Plant-Based Lifestyle?

A plant-based lifestyle is a dieting plan that revolves around whole foods. You want fresh green goods on your plate instead of artificial and chemically manipulated foods. You want to focus on food directly from mother nature instead of relying on processed meats and store-bought goods to keep you going.

A plant-based lifestyle is not the same as a vegan or vegetarian diet. There is much more to it and much fewer restrictions. You’re focused on what you need to prioritize rather than what you need to avoid. This take on dieting can help make the transition easier for beginners.

Does a Diet Help Me Lose Weight?

Now, before you leap into another dieting plan, we need to tackle some big questions; does dieting really help you lose weight?

The answer is not a simple yes or no. Dieting is a strategy to lose weight, one possibility out of many. It’s important to think about your goals before committing to anything. Is this a short-term plan or a long-term life change?  Is the diet you’re considering high-intensity or forgiving? Have you had pleasant experiences with dieting, bad ones, or is this your first time?

No matter your combination of answers, you have to take things slowly when approaching a diet. Finding one that suits your preferences, budget, and flexibility is the only way you’ll find a diet that produces actual results.

And if this is your first-time dieting, don’t jump into anything too high-intensity. A plant-based diet is flexible and not too intense.

Your focus in this diet is food that comes from plants. Fruits and vegetables stand at the top of this list, followed by legumes, beans, lentils, nuts, and seeds. Now, this doesn’t mean that you can’t have dairy or meat. Go gradually and see what works for you. Get inspired with my recipes!

Can I Lose Weight on a Plant-Based Diet?

This answer is much easier: absolutely you can! A plant-based diet is rich in nutrients, vitamins, and minerals and focuses on balancing your body’s nutrient requirement without splurging on unhealthy foods like processed meats. Yes, we’re using the word unhealthy. Red processed meats are considered carcinogens and have been associated with numerous diseases and illnesses. They’re not something you want to be eating often.

With the right plant-based foods, you’ll be sourcing your minerals, vitamins, fibers, and proteins closer to whole foods that are fresh and natural. You’ll be removing preservatives, additives, chemicals, and artificial flavoring from your daily meals for a healthier and more practical solution. You’ll also be eliminating calories, fats, and carbs which weigh you down in the worst ways.

A plant-based diet isn’t a fad, it’s a change in lifestyle. You’ll be looking at products that are more natural and farmer’s markets where you can get the goods as fresh as they come. You’ll want to be more careful when looking for products to buy and recipes to make.
