How to Sauté Mushrooms

In order to get a kickstart for the plant-based lifestyle, it’s best to research some foundations or basic recipes where you can start from. Then you can get more creative as you become more comfortable. This recipe is a great starting point. You can have it on its own, or partner it with gravy, salads, and more! Today, we’re going to be going through the most basic way to sauté mushrooms.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack of mushrooms
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1/8 tsp of chili powder

It’s not much and allows plenty of room to change the recipe according to your own preferences.

Preparation

The first step is to clean your mushrooms. Anything that comes out of packaging is better cleaned before you prepare and use it. One standard pack of mushrooms is enough for two full servings, so keep this in mind when preparing your meals.

Once you’ve cleaned your mushrooms, cut them up into more manageable parts. This makes it easier to add them to other recipes and meals, or simply have them on their own.

Instructions

In a bowl, combine your mushrooms with the olive oil and chili powder, along with any other ingredients you might want to add for additional flavoring.

Once you’ve mixed everything, it’s time to cook your mushrooms. Over the stovetop, cook the mushrooms at medium-high.

It’ll take about 8-10 minutes for them to fully cook through. Stay near them and move your mushrooms around while they’re simmering in the pan. Moving them around ensures they’re evenly cooked and don’t get stuck to the pan.

Once they’ve been fully cooked, you’ve got yourself 2 servings of sautéed mushrooms! You can serve them while they’re still hot and enjoy them fresh, or you can add them to other meals. They’re a great solution if you’re not sure what to make in a rush.

Mushrooms are a good source of fiber, protein, and antioxidants, so they’re a great addition to a plant-based lifestyle. Don’t be afraid to get experimental with what you combine them with, you’ll find that mushrooms are mild enough to be partners to almost anything you can find in your kitchen!
