With seasonal changes in temperature, sun exposure, wind and humidity levels, the way the skin is protected from the elements also needs to be modified slightly. Sticking to the same skin care regimen throughout the year can lead to dry skin irritation, oily skin conditions or issues like skin discoloration or spots.
Instead, making slight changes in your skin care routine based on the weather outside can help prevent these concerns and keep skin looking fresh and rejuvenated all year round.
Here is what you need to do when shifts in the seasons occur.
Spring
As temperatures start to get warmer, it is time to spring clean your skincare routine. Start by tossing out all products that are 2 years and older and start using products with lighter textures. Even during spring many people still suffer from the after effects of winter by suffering from dry, scaly and rough skin. Spring skincare aims to change all that by bringing in gentle moisturizers for maximum protection.
Summer
The coming of summer should be accompanied by sun protection with UVA and UVB protection. With the opportunity to spend more time outdoors, skin care needs to be protected up by using products that contain broad spectrum, zinc and titanium oxide. These help prevent both wrinkles and skin cancer. At the same time make it a habit to drink a lot of water or have coconut water, which is a great way to stay hydrated.
Fall
With temperatures dipping down and dry air moving in, fall is a time to exfoliate skin properly. Exfoliation is helpful for removing dead skin cells which can otherwise clog pores making skin appear dull. At the same time, use a good moisturizer for protection from the dry air outside.
Winter
Winter is the time when a lot of moisture is lost. It is important to use a good moisturizer for extra hydration. Using a humidifier indoors helps and using a hand cream and gloves for protection will help keep skin soft and smooth.
